LiftUp began on a long Tuesday afternoon. A friend was going through one of those weeks where everything seems to land at the same time — work pressure, a family worry, a lingering grief. She said, "I just need one good sentence to hold onto." The Bible app she had was beautiful but overwhelming. The motivational quote pages on social media felt loud, generic, and a little hollow.
We wondered: what if you could just say how you feel, and receive back one thoughtful verse or quote — chosen for you, not the algorithm? Not a sermon. Not a self-help essay. Just one steady line and a soft reflection to sit with.
Our small set of beliefs
- Encouragement should be specific. "It gets better" rarely lands. A verse that names your feeling does.
- Faith and modern life belong in the same sentence. Ancient scripture is remarkably good at meeting today's anxieties.
- AI should be a quiet helper, not a loud personality. LiftUp uses AI to choose and frame — never to perform.
- Free is the default. No paywall on encouragement.
A note on the AI
LiftUp is gently powered by large language models. We prompt the model to draw on well-known, widely available scripture and on motivational themes that are timeless rather than trendy. We ask it to keep responses short, warm, and free of theological argument. The model is good at this — but it isn't a pastor, a therapist, or an oracle. If a verse seems important to you, we strongly encourage cross-checking it with a trusted Bible translation.
A note on what we aren't
LiftUp is not a substitute for professional mental-health care. If you're going through a hard time and finding it difficult to cope, please reach out to a qualified counsellor, a trusted friend, or a crisis line in your country. A good verse can comfort; it cannot replace a real person who is trained to help.
Made with care
LiftUp is built by a small team that includes a Christian, a sceptic, and a designer who just believes everyone deserves a softer landing on hard days. We hope the app reflects all three of us — and, more importantly, that it helps you find the words you need today.
